Cleaning:
Our proprietary DiamondFx topcoat is an inert, food-safe coating originally developed to withstand the punishment of laboratory floors and countertops. It is heat resistant to over 500F, more scratch resistant than most stone and virtually stain proof. Most harsh chemicals will not affect it but due to its level of stain resistance and non-porous nature, wiping clean with a mild soap and minimal water is all that should be necessary and therefore what we recommend in order to prevent food transfer of any potentially harsh residue from aggressive cleaners.
Dishwashing:
While the topcoat can withstand the temperatures of a dishwasher, the internal materials, may expand under constant heat and therefore use of a dishwasher is not recommended.
Scratches:
Scratch resistance is on par with granite but if a scratch does occur, typically it can be buffed out with standard automotive buffing compounds and equipment. Severe scratches can typically be sanded out with durable sandpaper, or honing discs, then buffed as per above similar to natural stone. The finish is equivalent to approximately 75 coats of standard wood floor finishes, but care should be taken to avoid sanding through. Depending on the level of buffing achieved, microscopic scratches in the surface may remain and subsequently reduce the appearance of stain resistance due to residue getting caught in the scratches. If this occurs, additional buffing is required, or a food-safe ceramic coating (available at most hardware stores) can be applied to fill the scratches on a microscopic level.
Cutting:
Though highly scratch resistant, we do not recommend the use of knives in our bowls and vases. While most knives will not scratch the surface, they can produce a more polished line, which has a similar appearance. Extremely sharp, professional-grade knives can potentially scratch the surface. Use of any knife on the surface will dull the blade rapidly. To prevent any potential damage to your knives and/or vessel, we therefore do not recommend the use of lnives in the vessel.
